Victoria Moves Toward Stronger Protections for Retail Workers
The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and the National Retail Association have welcomed the Victorian Government’s commitment to introduce tougher penalties for those who assault or abuse retail workers, along with new Workplace Protection Orders aimed at improving frontline safety.
This announcement marks an important step forward for the thousands of workers who face growing levels of aggression and violence on the job. But while it’s a positive move, industry leaders stress that stronger action is still urgently needed.
With retail crime now reaching crisis levels, the ARA is calling on the Victorian Parliament to pass these laws without delay — and ensure they are supported by real, consistent enforcement across the state.
A video message from ARA CEO Christopher Rodwell further highlights the urgency of addressing retail crime and protecting the people who keep stores running every day.
